Academic Plan Each ninth grade student must have an approved academic plan. The plan is developed in cooperation with the student, parent, and school’s counselor. It must be signed by the parent and reviewed annually for revision, if necessary. Four Year Academic Plan An on-line four year Academic Plan was implemented with all freshmen students during the 2007-2008 school year and will continue to be implemented with each freshmen class thereafter. This plan sets forth specific educational goals that students intend to achieve before graduation. Academic plans include the designation of a career pathway, a four year high school course of study, and post-secondary planning. The plan includes students and parents:
Nevada High School Proficiency Exam To receive a diploma from a Nevada high school, students must pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Examinations in addition to meeting course requirements. Students in the Class of 2006 through 2009 must pass reading, writing, and math. Students in the Class of 2010 and beyond must pass reading, writing, math, and science. Students have the opportunity to take the reading and math profi ciency exams starting in the 10th grade. The first writing exam is given in the 11th grade. Practice proficiency exams are available on the Clark County School District website. Any student who completes course requirements but does not pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Examinations will receive a Certifi cate of Attendance rather than a diploma. Matriculation – Academic Load Requirements Matriculation to the next grade level is based on credits earned, not years in attendance. Students will be reclassified by the eighteenth day of the first semester. Specifically: In order to be classified as a: Sophomore (10th grade) A student must earn a minimum of: 5.0 credits In order to be classified as a: Junior (11th grade) A student must earn a minimum of: 11.0 credits In order to be classified as a: Senior (12th grade) A student must earn a minimum of: 16.5 credits (14.5 block schedule) Parents should expect to receive correspondence regarding their student’s academic status each year. Parents should call their student’s counselor if they have any questions about their grade level classification. Attendance Requirement With state-mandated accountability, comes greater responsibility to young people. Students are required to attend all classes to which they are assigned. Students with more than six (6) unverified absences in any class will lose credit for that class. |
